In addition to the book being catapulted to bestseller status, with 250,000 books sold in less than a year since it was released in May 2010 in the United Kingdom, sales for the foods associated with the diet plan also shot up by 100 percent. Subscription to the Dukan Diet’s website rose by a substantial margin within the first five months of the book’s release. The website provides coaching, guidelines, advice, and recipes that the diet creator, Pierre Dukan, customizes himself to meet the needs of each subscriber.

Dukan, a French nutritionist, attributes the Dukan Diet plan’s success in the United Kingdom, in part, to its effectiveness and, in part, to Carol Middleton’s inadvertent endorsement.
