History of Dental Implant s

Implants as the name implies is a procedure where we place a Titanium dental implant into the jaw bone where teeth previously once were. This involves some form of surgery done under local anesthetic or intra-venous sedation. In most cases we will allow the implants to completely heal and "integrate" with your tissues (bone and gums) before proceeding to the next stage which is to begin rebuilding the lost tooth structure that does the chewing for you which might be up to 2-3 months. Occasionally depending on the needs and merits of the case we can do the complete reconstruction immediately.
Once fully integrated most implants should outlast natural dentition as we are discovering more all the time as we review cases that date back to the early days of Inplants which is around 25-30 years ago.
